Since I end up turning every thread into a zombie thread anyway, I thought I might make a place for me to channel some of that undead energy. And I know we have at least a few other zombie fans here...

Everyone should read Breathers. It's a good book, and the author is really nice.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51nDch1C%2BhL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA240_SH20_OU01_.jpg
http://www.amazon.com/Breathers-Zombies-S-G-Browne/dp/0767930614

I know this guy and hopefully he doesn't see that I'm not recommending this one as highly. Fantastic title though.

And here I enter my rant about all these public domain works of literature being lazily mashed with zombies/horror in an attempt to make a quick buck. Pride & Prejudice & Zombies was awful and I can only imagine just how bad the slew of uninspired knockoffs are.

I end this jumbled installment with a piece from a local artist. Very nice man, and now I have a print of this in my room. A gift from a special lady friend.

I have been a fan of zombie movies since i was 3 I am now 30 and trying to give you a list of good zombie movies last night I started thinking about vampire movies too.
I know there are quite a few vampire movies I have seen that have zombies in them but now im drawing a blank on them.

can you think of any?

and speaking of vampires and zombies lets just play Hollywood dosent take zombies the way they are taking vampire and werewolves. I mean the last thing we need is vegetarian zombies who sparkle.

Charley

meant pray not play. (but it wont let me edit to fix it.)

but anyway all this zombie talk has me wanting to restart my writing.
I write short stories and screenplays to relax sometimes. (been working on a screenplay for a zombie movie for years but lost it when i lost my hard drive a couple years ago. im now thinking of rewriting it.) It takes place a few years after an outbreak. life is starting to return to normal(or as normal as it can be with the living dead roaming the earth) there are safe zones set up now keeping the general population safe from zombie attacks people are requierd to were devices that monitor there heart rate so when it drops to zero it makes a warning sound (to protect the public from new zombies who die in the safe areas)
well two researchers are called to the Ciro museum to help translate writings on some tablets that were found in storage. once they get there and start reading the tablets they find the story of the first outbreak (this is where the story actually starts for the most part.)
the tablets tell the tell of the first zombie outbreak that took place in ancient Egypt and how the fought for survival and even eventually found a "cure" that kept the sickness from spreading to new people.

oh also I forgot to put this on my list of movies for you

Tokyo zombie. (its on chiller sometime tonight.)

We've got a lot in common. I'm also 30, which I think ties us for the youngest active members on VapeZone. I write too, even went to school for it but don't use it much now. I'm watching Dance of the Dead right now and it's making me soooooooo happy.

Charley

dance of the dead is great I love it.

I am getting ready to watch the mad on chiller in a few minutes.

so you say you write also have you ever been published?
I am thinking about trying to submit some of my stuff (after I write it again lol no matter how good it comes out I always feel like I can do much better so I tend to delete it and rewrite it again.)

I have a degree in journalism and did a little newswriting and worked for the AP for a bit before I decided it was not for me. So I went to work at a friend's comic book shop. I'm full of ambition.

As for creative writing, never published but never really tried. I write mainly for myself and occasionally enter little contests for fun. Now that I have kids I've been obsessed with the children's book format and write children's stories that are good for kids, some that are good for kids and adults together, and some that are just for adults. To tie it all back to zombies, I help my six-year-old son write and make books to send to family and friends and the last one devolved into and all-out zombie war between factions of zombies.

Charley

ah cool

I mostly just write for myself too. I get these stories stuck in my head and I cant get rid of them until i write them down.

a lot of them are zombie related lol

alright strell got a question for you.

you are just as big of a zombie movie fan as I am so im hoping you can tell me the name of a zombie movie.

it takes place in Australia
all these zombies start showing up the survivors start killing them yada yada normal zombie movie stuff but then we find out that the zombies are not actually zombies there infected by some kind of virus/radiation/ect from space and aliens show up and make it rain and it cures them all. (well except one who reinfects everyone.)
dose it sound familiar? been trying to think of the name of it all night.

ok I got one for you list your basic survival tactics for surviving the zombie Apocalypse.

mine is as follows

if the zombies followed the certain preset movie models (they crave human flesh, there bodily fluids transmit the virus, they run on instinct with no conscious thought, there drawn to the living, ect....) then most of us are screwed
1. holding up in a fortified area would be a death sentence. yes you may be able to defend it and live for a while but eventualy you would run out of ammo and food.

2. if the virus is transmitted by bodily fluids then there is a chance that mosquitoes can pass it on if they bite a zombie a few minutes before they bite you.

3. if the virus is transmitted by bodily fluids then blood contact would pass it on as well (I am a hunter I have killed many things in my life I know how blood can splatter and spill.) close quarter combat is out you will most likely have small cuts open wounds that it will get in. (it may even get in your eyes or mouth.)

4. raiding stores is out. everyone and there uncle is going to try that. all the store is going to do is act as an all you can eat buffet for the zombies. and even if you can make it to the store before the zombies show up you still have to deal with other ppl raiding the store they will likely be armed and will also be in a panic (armed ppl + panic + beef sticks = you dead with a fat redneck standing over you snapping into a slim jim.)

your best bets would be the following.

1. arm yourself. (this one goes without saying pretty much.)
raid homes for weapons (most ppl will be trying to go to the gun shops, hardware stores, wall mart, ect... to get there weapons it will only be a shoot out as ppl try to get the most guns for themselves followed by an all you can eat dinner for the zombies) space will be limited weight will be a factor. dont try to take every gun in sight grab the most common calibers as they will be the ones you will find the most ammo for (.22 Long riffle .45 .12 gauge 9mill 12gauge ect..) rifles will be your most valuable weapons as you can accurately hit and kill from a safe distance. (providing you have skill) shot guns will be your second best friend as they are good at both mid range and short range. hand guns (unless again you have skill) will pretty much be short range weapons. if you have a vehicle (which you should because moving on foot should be avoided unless no other option is advalible.) you will have room for extra weapons but dont go over bored space will still be limited. (having 1 .30-30 is better than having 50 you can only fire one at a time. so dont waste space alto if the clips in them fit your gun take those.) also once you know how much space you will need you can then start collecting more guns in different calibers (the more calibers you have the more of a chance you will have to find ammo.)

in other words keep it light but keep it varied.

2. keep on the move. never stay in the same area to long the longer you stay the more zombies will show up. stay away from populated areas take back roads if possible. (towns and cities will be war zones and will be zombie central.)

3, transportation avoid small cars if possible they dont hold enough room for supplies, weapons, passengers ect..
but also avoid vehicles that use large amounts of gas it will be a limited resource (in the post zombie world gas will be worth more to you than a million dollars and a one way ticket to Amsterdam is now.) your best bet is a suv hybrid. (great mileage, still rugged enough to handle abuse, and can fit many supplies/weapons.) this is of course if you are land locked. if you are near an ocean or great lake your best bet in a large boat (something that you can go below deck in like a house boat.) you can sail along the coast finding low populated areas to camp/hunt/scavenge in. and hit the water when the zombies come and simply sail to the next safe spot. (be aware of changing weather if it gets bad head to land as mother nature will eat you alive faster than any zombie.)

4. stay in SMALL groups you will need some one to watch your ass but on the other hand if you have lots of ppl you will look more appetizing to the hordes of zombies than the small "snack" a few blocks away.
you can constantly add to your group just stay in small teams never all gathering at the same place for more than a few moments.

5.in the world of zombies the man with the biggest gun is king. you will need a leader (someone to make the hard decisions. ie a 3 year old kid is bitten blow her head off before she turns or wait till she turns and risk someone else getting infected. a 17 year old boy falls asleep while on watch a zombie gets into your camp and kills 2 ppl. do you let the kid stay? kick him out of camp and let him fend for himself? do you shoot him in the head? these are things most of you will not be able to decide for yourselves.)

6. chose your own route. if you are a strong leader find survivors and start your own group. if you are a follower find a leader. if you are defiant despise authority figures and are only out for #1 go it alone. (if you are the last one no one will follow you. and most leaders will just plain out shoot you for the good of the others. I would not hesitate to kill you if i thought it would save lives in the long run.)

7. unless you can find a deserted island somewhere you should stick to warmer climates.
zombies are dead. dead things rot. dead flesh will rot faster at 89 degrees with 90% humidity than it will at 34 degrees with 5% humidity.
this will most likely help you with the different types of zombies (zombies rot there muscles break down a zombie that has been dead for days and is decomposing will most likely move slower than a guy who died 5 minutes ago.)

now there is a lot more to this then what i just listed but that should be your basic plan. but remember even the best laid plans are flawed you will need to constantly look for opportunities to grab food fresh water ammo clothing and medical supplies. and these chances may force you to vary from the basic plan. its all a matter of whats more important at the moment.
